Mental Health Is Like Salt in Cooking 🍲🧂

You can have the freshest vegetables, the finest cut of meat, or the most vibrant array of spices but without salt, the dish often feels flat, unfinished, or just off. Salt is rarely the star of the show, but it’s always working behind the scenes.

Think of the moments in your life as different ingredients:

  • Your career 🧠

  • Your relationships 💞

  • Your passions and hobbies 🎨

  • Your responsibilities and routines 🧺
No matter how rich or varied these are, without the “salt” of mental wellness (self-awareness, rest, emotional regulation, connection) things can fall apart. Life begins to feel bland, like something’s missing. You may find yourself snapping easily, withdrawing from things you once enjoyed, or feeling constantly drained.

Too Much Salt? Too Little? The Balance Is Personal

Just as every dish requires a different amount of salt, every person has different mental health needs. Some of us thrive with frequent social interaction, while others recharge in solitude. Some need movement and activity; others need stillness and space. There’s no one-size-fits-all seasoning. It’s all about balance.

And just like over-salting a meal can overwhelm your palate, overwhelming yourself with stress, overcommitment, or lack of boundaries can drown out the joys of life. It’s all about being attuned to what you need and adjusting accordingly.
